on November 15th, 20077 things about me [that you may not know]

Shane from AskShane.org recently wrote 7 things about him and asked me to write this post [7 things about me]. Apparently he wants to know 7 things about me ! :)

Let me present it here, it is not in any particular order.

  1. I started writing a blog, without even knowing it is a blog, in 2002 at Xanga. In those days, I was just presenting some jokes and stuff to people. I even created a skin for Xanga and shared with other people at Xanga but now they do not have skins, they also moved to “Themes”.
  2. I do not consider myself as a Graphics designer and I did not learn any web design in college. In fact, none of my themes started in Photoshop. I am more of a CSS designer and whatever I have learned so far is by trial and error method and through some reading.
  3. I work as a software developer for the Microsoft.NET platform in my day job and none of my colleagues know what I am doing on the internet. It just takes a minute for them to do a google search on my name, but nobody did that so far.
  4. I am good at singing and I sing Tamil songs once in a while, most of the songs composed by the Maestro Ilayaraaja. I might do a singing podcast at my tamil blog on some day.
  5. I learned a lot of things over the internet and I try to share what I know, here and there.
  6. The people that really irritate me are those people who take my themes and add their own links in the footer and release it from their site. wpthemegallery.com did that once and stopped after I shouted about it. blogstheme.com also did that recently but corrected itself after I sent them an email.

Other people that irritate me are those who rips off my theme, and claims it as their own.

On any one of these occasions, I was absolutely stunned by the support I got from my site readers.
Even though they do not comment on my website often, I know there are enough people who are ready to fight for me. I am very glad to have secured such a nice group of people on my side.

  7. I am starting to miss a lot of things we have enjoyed while in India, especially as my daughter is growing up here in the USA. I think I will go back to India in a few years to settle down.

Now I am supposed to ask 7 persons to continue this. I will ask any one of my silent readers [the ones who never commented on my site so far] to pick up this task and write 7 things about themselves and then link to this post.
Thanks.

i’ve always journaled. having a computer (finally) made that so much easier. now, of course, we blog. having been accused of never having an undocumented thought, i blog on. i’ve no left brain so macs-for-me, which means, as a blogger, i must have Beauty and simplicity (like everyone else on the planet, i tried myspace, which gave me a headache). just as soon as i can adequately caffeinate my left brain, i’ll make an attempt to download the “misty” theme and try to make it fly…..all the best, oonagh+

This is a 7 part response to Sadish’s post from one of the ’silent readers’. It is ordered to roughly match Sadish’s original post.

    1. I started creating webpages and published a UK Internet Directory in 1996-7. I started blogging (with Blogger) last year and have recently created two new experimental blogs in Wordpress.com using MistyLook because I found it adapted on the Albert Strange Association website and have found it the most suitable for my purpose, though I have wondered about 3 columns.
    2. I avoid Graphics as much as possible (only moving to Broadband very recently) and like to do everything in html as far as possible, following the principles of Tim Berners-Lee! For me, the net is about information and communication, not entertainment and pretty pictures. I did a little CSS some years ago and edited a script just recently but haven’t really got my head round it as I’m not really technical.
    3. I’m not really working at present (semi-retired) and I’m not sure about pasting links in here so you can find what I’m up to and all the blogs and sites referred to through the above homepage.
    4. I can’t sing and can’t read Tamil, though I can manage Hindi at a pinch having spent a couple of lovely years in India including Tamil Nadu, so will have a look at your Tamil site soon.
    5. I did two-thirds of a computing degree about 7 years ago and still love the internet and hate computers. I’m using a PC just now but 95% of the time I’m on a Mac and MistyLook and just about everything else look sooo much better on a Mac (is decent anti-aliasing really beyond Microsoft and PC hardware?). Blogging reminds me of my early days on the net with IRC. It’s so great to communicate rather than turning the net into some kind of inferior TV. Blogger seems easier but less adaptable than WordPress on which I have to edit code a lot more.
    6. It’s a shame if people steal MistyLook or fail to acknowledge an author but I would like to be able at some point to move to Wordpress.org and maybe adapt the theme.
    7. I’d like to visit India again too (not since 1980) but I came here today with a technical query! If you have a lot of tabs in MistyLook, it requires a lot of ingenuity to get them to wrap below the search box on wordpress.com and this only appears to work in Firefox (on a Mac). In Safari, or IE on a PC the wrapping fails and at least one tab gets hidden behind the search box. Is there a cure?! Thanks for reading through this if you did!

    1) I am new to blogging….I am really using it as an eportfolio for school/work. Don’t want you to ‘hate’ me so can you tell me why your “WorpPress Themes by Sadish” doesn’t show on my site? ;-> Did I install it wrong? I love the theme and certainly think you should get recognition for it!

    2) I wish that I could be semi retired! I full time work, go to school full time, and also teach a class online. In other words—I am a very active person.

    3) Hmm, if I had to name something that I really dislike it would have to simple be people being rude or bullying to others.

    4) Love crisp, cold morning walks

    5) Unlike Trevor, I absolutely love the computer and the Internet. I was late to learn how to use the computer but now I am constantly on it doing research, communicating with friends and family, etc.

    6) Never having been over seas before, I would love to be able to spend time in another country teaching for anywhere from 5 weeks to a few years.

    7) I am definitely going to have to devote some time on learning how to set up my site!
